Barbagia

Barbagia is the heart of Sardinia, a real island inside the Island . O ne of the least populated areas in Europe , Barbagia has preserved its cultural and natural treasures.

The proverb Furat chie benit dae su mare (Those who come from the sea are here to steal) has been used to support the commonplace stating that Barbagia people have a narrow-minded attitude toward what comes from outside: a reputation easily denied on a quick contact with the local people, very warm and hospitable. What makes them seem somewhat “distant” is their pride and their claim to be respected, but they are willing to accept those who wish to know and appreciate their peculiarities.

Barbagia was well described by Grazia Deledda, 1926 winner of Nobel Prize in Literature: walking through its paths you can still feel the same atmospheres, the same smells, the same emotions as if time had never passed.

During your stay, you can ride a horse to Tiscali prehistoric village, go on a jeep along the shepherds' routes, watch the traditional shawl embroiderer work, help making the typical local bread, su pani carasau , eat with the shepherds in their huts, enjoying the tasty roasted suckling piglets, pecorino cheese and strong scented wine.

Genuine food, unspoiled nature, interesting people, archaeological sites, traditional artisans, a peaceful environment: these are the reasons why you should come and we strongly recommend everybody to visit Barbagia.

Three days in Barbagia will left you something deep inside: a strong desire to stay longer!
